AMTGRPG
or A(nother) Magic: TG Role-Playing Game
I designed a role-playing game that uses Magic: The Gathering cards. (Many other people have created Magic RPGs; I hope my game is sufficiently different.) Playing this game requires no "character sheet", just cards representing the spells your character owns and a way to keep track of life.
Currently available materials:
- Rules. (11 pages of rules follwed by reference cards.)
- Beginner-level adventure: Pyramid Challenge. Note: I have tested this with teams of two and three players. The one-player setting may not be well-balanced, and I still don't know about the four-player version.
- Beginner-level adventure: The Goblin Monolith.
Materials available in the future:
- Sheet of all enemy mages I've created.
- Two other beginner-level adventures. (I need to swap out the artwork I found online with art from Magic cards. I'm not certain why I think that's more acceptable.)
- LaTeX source files for the creation of enemy mages and adventures to make it easy to write new adventures.
Notes:
- This is a Many-Vs-1 game, similar to other RPGs.
- Deck creation follows a limited style.
- I recommend not reading an adventure before you play unless you're the GM. It's more fun as a player to not know the encounters and the abilities of the enemy mages.
- So far, I have only introductory-level adventures.
- If someone else creates an adventure, I'd love to post it here!
- I am not employed in any way by Wizards.
- I am very open to feedback!
