  1. 0 points: Foggy wants to backup the data on her Pokedex to the storage space on her specialized router/wireless-access-point/Pokedex-backup. Her wireless connection has a data rate of 60 Mbit/s (Mbps). If the backup data contains 6 Gbits and sitting across the room, the propagation time is 2s, how long does the transfer of data take?

  2. 80 points: Foggy decides that it's taking too long and plugs her Pokedex directly into the router/awesome-stuff device instead. This wired connection has a data rate of 300 Mbps and a propagation time of only 1s. How long does the transfer take now?

  3. 0 points: Foggy takes Starmie out to catch some new Pokemon. She manages to catch a Rattata and sends the info about it to her trainer friend Cinder. The Rattata data only occupies a single packet of 125 MegaBytes as her Pokedex sends the data across 4G service to a cell tower, then to Cinder's home router, then to Cinder's Pokedex. The link to the cell tower has a data rate of 50 Mbps and propagation time of .2 s. The link between the cell tower and Cinder's router has a data rate of 250 Mbps with a propagation time of .5 s. The link between Cinder's router and his Pokedex has a data rate of 50 Mbps and a propagation time of .1 s. If the entire path is datagram-style packet-switched How long does it take for Foggy's packet about Rattata to reach Cinder's Pokedex?

  4. 100 points: Foggy is later out catching Pokemon and captures a Tentacruel. Again, the packet for Tentacruel's data only occupies a single packet of 125 MegaBytes. Her Pokedex sends the data across 3G service to a cell tower, then to Cinder's home router, then to Cinder's Pokedex. The link between Cinder's router and Pokedex is the same, but since Foggy is in a more rural area, the link to the cell tower has a data rate of only 5 Mbps and propagation time of .5 s. The link between this cell tower and Cinder's router has the same data rate of 250 Mbps, but with a propagation time of 1.5 s. How long does it take for Foggy's packet about Tentacruel to reach Cinder's Pokedex? (The path uses all datagram-style packet switching.)

  5. 80 points: Right after sending the data about Tentacruel to Cinder, Foggy's Pokedex starts to do a backup. This message will take many packets and is better approximated using the network-layer estimate for communication time. What is the estimate for the amount of time to backup her 6Gbits of data on the Pokedex? (The connection is still a packet-switched path.) The propagation time from the cell tower to her router is 1.5 seconds, and the propagation time from her router to her backup unit is .1 s.
